As many of you know back in April 2022, myself and another breeder, were duped into selling the same man, who we later learned has been convicted of fraud, a female puppy each (a day apart) with no knowledge of the other puppy. Regarding my puppy, it is now a legal issue awaiting trial. We have gone through the early emergency hearings, pretrial motions/hearings and are now in the discovery phase. I have incurred over $30,000 in expenses so far. I am told by my attorney it will cost at least $20k to $25k more to get through the trial. I have been financially overwhelmed and am asking for help. The man's name is attached in the links below. As this is a legal issue, please do not make contact with him. After realizing the night my puppy left that he had just received another the day before, we have both been trying to get our puppies back including immediately offering full refunds. Our initial concern is that Dobermans are a breed where both same-sex aggression and littermate syndrome are major issues. Our other concerns are that this man lied to us about various things to obtain these puppies full well knowing we would never have sold him a puppy if he was honest. We have proof of all of this. He has lied about getting another puppy at the same time, the number of dogs he has, his experience, his occupation (said he works from home and on the rare occasions he has to go into his office, he brings the dogs. He does not work from home and cannot bring dogs to work. He is a teacher, lives alone, and is at work all day. That alone would have prevented me from selling to him). We have also found out since:
~He was arrested for and convicted of forging animal health certificates. See court case at end.
~Due to this conviction, he lost his job as a teacher although is allowed to still teach elsewhere, and he does. See the court case link at end.
~Unrelated to the forgery, he pretended he held the title of Doctor and was listed as such with the AKC. He is not a doctor at all. See the court case at end.
~He was not able to judge AKC events for multiple years.
~He has a lifelong ban from the Dachshund Club of America. Dachshunds are his primary breed. The DCA is the second oldest AKC parent club. I am told this is the only lifelong ban they have ever implemented.
~He has multiple breeds of dogs and we are now told by others, a far greater number than we were aware of. We don’t even know how many. Dachshunds, brussels griffons, whippet, Dobermans, and who knows what else.
~I have been told many other stories of his misconduct by multiple people in other breeds. He has been accused of returning dogs in poor condition with behavior issues and worms, putting older dogs in shelters that he no longer needs (if they don’t get adopted soon he takes them out and euthanizes them), he sold someone a pointer which he said was young 2-3 years old until the buyer found out she was 9 and returned her only to find out he had her euthanized just a few weeks after, other breeders have sold him dogs that just seemingly disappear and they don’t even know what happened, and he has threatened another breeders’ life before via text message.
There are so many other stories. We are sick to our stomachs that this habitual LIAR has our puppies growing up in an unsafe situation we would never have placed them in and are doing all we can to get them back. We checked references and sometimes they still slip through the cracks. There is more info about him if you do a google search. Always google. Never just trust references. Lesson learned.
