Hello, my name is Rodney Poulson and I have been living with metastatic liposarcoma since May of 2008. In May and August of 2008, I underwent two surgeries to have a small cantaloupe-sized liposarcoma removed from my right lower lumbar region. Following the two surgeries, I underwent thirty-three radiation treatments. However, on August 31, 2010, I was rediagnosed with metastatic liposarcoma, which had spread to my right chest cavity. Under my doctor’s care, I endured six rounds of Adriamycin (Doxorubicin), one same-day surgery to remove precancerous skin lesions on my abdomen and back, which were possibly caused from my radiation treatments, and seven rounds of Gemzar (Gemcitabine)/Taxotere (Docetaxel). Once the combination of Gemzar and Taxotere ceased working, the decision was made to perform two surgeries in 2013 in order to remove the liposarcomas from my right chest cavity and sternum, which also included the removal of parts of five ribs and some cartilage and the insertion of an implant in order to hold my right chest cavity together. Unfortunately, in May of 2014, my metastatic liposarcoma returned and beginning on June 30, 2014, I underwent six grueling courses of the chemotherapy drugs Ifosfamide (Ifex) and Etoposide (Etopophos) along with blood transfusions. Now, on June 1, 2015, I started the same grueling regimen of Ifosfamide (Ifex) and Etoposide (Etopophos) again as my metastatic liposarcoma has returned. However, prior to starting the chemotherapy this year, I had a liposarcoma in my liver embolized, injected directly with chemotherapy, and microwaved in order the make sure that the tumor would not survive.
Any money raised will go towards my COBRA payments, past medical bills that I have not been able to pay, current medical bills, and future medical treatments that might have to be performed in other parts of the United States or outside of the United States. Currently, the Ifosfamide/Etoposide treatment is the last treatment available to me until ET-743/Yondelis (Trabectedin) is approved by the FDA, which should hopefully be coming shortly(?). Thank you for your time. Love and Light….Rodney
