Makenzie our miracle!
Melanie and Mark waited a long time before they were blessed with their daughter, Makenzie. Makenzie is 6 years old, and very energetic and sweet; just look at her picture. Makenzie enjoys going to school, in May performed in her second ballet recital, and enjoys visiting her family in Puerto Rico. She was looking forward to summer camp this year. On June 7, 2015 Makenzie showed signs of a stomach flu which progressed into having severe symptoms. June 8th she was taken to the Tucson Medical Center and the following day transferred to Arizona’s UMC PICU. She was diagnosed with a bacterial infection of Escherichia Coli 0157:H7 which cause Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS). HUS is a syndrome that breaks down red blood cells and platelets. As a result of the HUS Makenzie is currently on CRT dialysis to address acute kidney failure, and is at risk of stroke, internal hemorrhaging from low platelet count, and other organ damage. At the moment, it is unknown the level of damage the HUS has caused to her kidneys, pancreas or other organs.
The family is thankful for everyone’s prayers and warm thoughts. If you would like to help the family with the medical expenses and loss of wages, please do so by donating to the “gofundme” account.
