PLEASE READ UPDATE OF JULY 30, 2020 -
While this situation has been quiet since September of 2019, the saga continues. The family was served on July 29, 2020 and require your support to ensure fair representation in the Supreme Court of Newfoundland.
Thank you to all supporters.
Background:
Gerard & Cora Aucoin are residents of Kippens, Newfoundland, Canada . Gerard has maintained the property off grid since the 1990's and has developed it into a self-sustaining hobby farm. Over the past couple of years (2017-present), the Aucoin's have been continuously challenged by the Town of Kippens for their lifestyle, and the matter continues to escalate. The land on which they live and work has been utilized for agricultural by his family for over 100 years and prior to the establishment of the Town of Kippens.
In March 2018, The Town of Kippens issued three (3) “Stop Work and Removal Orders” in which Mr. Aucoin was ordered to remove all livestock (animals), fencing (including longers, signs and advertising), and two sheds from his property. The town subsequently rescinded the orders, however, that was short lived. In September 2018, a nearby developer filed an appeal against the town at the Western Regional Appeal Board in respect to the town rescinding the removal orders (postponed until November 2018). With knowledge of this information, on October 15, 2018 the Town of Kippens re-issued "removal orders" against the property and owners of animals, sheds, fencings, and signs (enforceable June 2019).
On October 29, 2018, the Aucoin's appealed the removal orders to the Western Regional Appeal Board. Moving forward, they will require legal representation to present their case.
The purpose of this campaign is to cover legal fees, costs and any other expenses incurred by the Aucoin family in their appeal to maintain their way of life. The Aucoin's are the sole beneficiary of this campaign.
There has been an online campaign supporting the Aucoin's on change.org since April 2018, additional information can be found on this forum. https://www.change.org/p/save-the-aucoin-family-farm-kippens-newfoundland
"We both love the Farm, our lifestyle, and the animals (which are like pets to us). Gerard is a very humble, honest, hardworking man who is living his dream. We live very private lives and do not like conflict or media attention, yet we find ourselves in the midst of it. We would like to extend our sincerest appreciation to all who have stood behind our cause during this most difficult time. We will be forever grateful. Thank you so much". Cora & Gerard Aucoin
