XOXO Olivia

Olivia Ann Schwerr is a very exuberant and loving five year old.  She is currently in kindergarten and loves to learn and play with her classmates.  She has a little sister named Adison, they love to play and share their toys.

It all started four weeks ago with a small tummy ache and some hip pain. Olivia was brought to the doctor a number of times with a given diagnosis of a pulled muscle, viral infection and constipation. She had been having difficulty with her temperature over the last week. This all escalated quickly when Olivia's temperature rose to 106 degrees. Her primary doctor recommended that she go to St. Paul Children's Hospital Emergency Room to be evaluated because her fever had gone on so long. After a number of tests and unanswered questions, the oncologist came in and told us that she has a mass in her abdomen and in her hip/groin area. They then decided that she should be transferred to Minneapolis Children's Hospital because they have amazing oncologist's here that specialize in what they saw in her.

Olivia needed to get a CT scan because the doctors wanted to be able to see a better image of what was showing up in her abdomen and hip/groin. After a number of restless hours the doctors came back and said "Jon and Kari, we have confirmed our initial assumptions. It is a cancerous mass. We have Olivia set up at 9:00 A.M. Saturday morning to biopsy the mass to get confirmation of what type of cancer that she has." We were also told that because of the holiday we will not get results from the biopsy until Tuesday. With what they are seeing in the scans, the doctors are very hopeful in what type of cancer they believe it is. If they are correct in their assumptions of the type of cancer, chemotherapy will kick its ass! With that being said, she will be receiving a port during surgery tomorrow, which of course will be helpful because Olivia, like anyone, does not like being poked!

We appreciate all messages, texts, donations and posts. Please keep in mind that this is a very sensitive subject to both Olivia and her family. We welcome people to come and see her, but please check with us to make sure that we are all on the same page. Cancer is a very scary word and we are trying to make the process as fun and smooth as possible for her. As of right now Olivia understands that she is here because she doesn't feel good and we are trying to find out why. This is the best hospital to accomplish that.

The money will be used to help pay for these unforseen medical expenses.  It will also help the family to be able to stay with her as much as possible, as they will not be able to work during this time.  This will relieve a lot of stress and worry.  The family needs to be able to focus on their family and taking care of Olivia in what ever she may need.  This will also help the family to have a happy holidays and not need to think about the financial burden.

Your donation is appreciated in ways that cannot be explained.  It will help to alleviate the financial pressures of a cancer diagnosis.
