On the night of May 4, 2011, Brad’s life changed forever. Brad was on his way home from work; he was driving a motorbike and something very tragic happened. We have no idea if someone hit him or if mechanical failure was involved because the motorbike remained on the bridge. However, Brad did not. Brad flew over the side of the Claiborne overpass in New Orleans which is a 75 ft. drop. Possibly one of the reasons for his survival is that he landed in a grassy area and not on cement. Someone must have called the police when they saw a motorbike on the bridge and no driver. The next day, we were able to talk to one of the firemen who were called to the scene, and he stated that a policeman actually thought Brad was dead, but the fireman noticed that Brad was barely breathing so he started CPR on him. From this severe impact, both of Brad’s lungs were collapsed, his wrist and pelvis were broken and worst of all, his spine from T-8 to T-12 was badly damaged, causing the paralysis. As if that was not enough, the possibility of brain damage was a concern because tests showed swelling of the brain and blood on top of the brain. As time went on, the doctors were concerned of the fact that Brad was not opening his eyes, so they requested to drill the skull to insert a monitor to assess how much swelling was actually taking place, and the result was a big relief: there would likely not be any brain damage! Brad was on life support for weeks, and when he woke up, he woke up in a body he was not used to. It’s a shear miracle that he survived with full brain function, however, his day-to-day life is extremely challenging. He lives in a wheelchair. For things most of us take for granted, he cannot do. This includes everything from his chest down, and this includes going to the restroom. The FDA just approved Stem Cell Transplant in the United States. We want to raise money so that Brad can get the treatment he needs so that he may have a chance to control parts of his lower body. Each treatment is $7,500.00. We hope to raise enough funds to get him many treatments. Our hope is that it will improve and heal the damaged spinal cord so he can control certain functions associated with the lower body. Please help us give Brad his miracle. This gives us all hope. We can see the light. We are looking at the cup as half full instead of half empty. There have been many cases where paralyzed patients received this treatment and walked. Some received it and were able to control going to the restroom. This is his chance. Any improvement will be so helpful. Please help us. We will keep you updated on everything. THANK YOU!!!!!!
