My mom, Mary Anderson, is an incredibly kind, compassionate person who’s worked tremendously hard and devoted her life to helping and healing people. She's currently fighting for her life and really needs your help.
Her story:
Mary was diagnosed with oral cancer in April 2015. Surgery would have been the most effective treatment, but her cancer grew too rapidly to make surgery an option. In August and September she underwent radiation treatment which shrunk the tumour and gave us a great deal of hope. Nevertheless she was suffering unbearable pain which heavy doses of morphine, methadone and painkillers could not touch. On December 4th she was admitted to the hospital, placed on a morphine drip, put on IV fluids and had a feeding tube inserted. She was released on December 23rd but remained on a feeding tube and antibiotic drip.
In early January biopsy results revealed Mary still had cancer. Now we were told if she wanted to live her only option was surgery, but because she’d already undergone radiation treatment, and because of the tenacity of the cancer her odds of survival were 50/50 at best. The jaw surgery is a major invasive operation with numerous potential complications. At best, the surgery will remove the cancer and leave her permanently disfigured. At worst, she’ll endure more pain and suffering with no success. This is where things stand for my mom at the moment. She has difficulty talking, sleeps much of the day because of the heavy dose of meds she’s on and finds attending to the simplest tasks challenging. She hasn’t been able to work since the diagnosis.
She is 64 years old with no job, no income and no savings. She invested in her business because she believed she could make a difference and she was until she got sick. Now the business is floundering and mom is in dire straits. With huge medication costs she’s no longer able to make ends meet. She’s been a hard working single mom all her life raising two kids with no help. She’s done so much to make the world a better place – from her animal rights advocacy to her healing essential oil company to the caring she gave her patients in her work as a dental hygienist. It’s her turn to be helped out.
