Hey! Our names are Will Curtis and Sammy Dallas, the co-writers, co-directors, and co-creative executive producers. We are film students and currently in the amazing pre-production process of our short film we wrote together called 8pm to 8am. During our second year in college, we were put face to face with the rules put in place to control a fundamentally absurd world. As we’ve gotten older, we’ve seen time pass by faster, and faster. In the confusion we’ve learned to find peace and harmony in the inexplicable.
We already have an amazing producing team consisting of Jenna McDowell, Cory McCullough, Max Eberle, and Bret Queenan. Together, we want to create a visually unique world where the audience follows the wild odyssey of a passive college resident advisor trying to learn self-agency. With the support we garner from this fundraiser, we plan to bring this world to life that encapsulates the dreamlike nightlife and sound scape of Boston after dark.
8pm to 8am is a psychological dark comedy and a warped coming-of-age short film.
This campaign will help raise necessary funds towards equipment rentals, production design, costume design, catering, film festival distribution, and much more!
8pm to 8am follows Jackie, a twenty-year old university resident advisor, through their odyssey of bizarre encounters that bring them deeper into Boston’s wonderful and dreamlike nightlife. Jackie’s bad-influence friend and fellow resident advisor, Alex, and love-interest, Jennifer, push Jackie to leave for the largest and most popular Halloween party in Boston. At the same time, a group of five suitemates get into several heated arguments and their friendship is tested by Jackie’s absence. Throughout the night, Jackie meets several different wonderful and uncanny individuals like: The Guardian (a Bostonian nutcase), The Observer (the keeper of the Labyrinth), The Drifters (environmentally conscious leather-clad vagabonds), The Goons (unhinged college burnouts) and many of the Halloween party’s diverse partygoers.

We hope to create a never-ending fever dream of a night where the city itself becomes alive in the vein of Martin Scorcese’s After Hours (1985). Aiming to bring a healthy dose of existentialism to the dream-swept aesthetics of surreal horror romps like Brian Yuzna’s Society (1989) and Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984). We strive for a rich combination of low brow and high brow material in the likes of Greg Mottola’s Superbad (2007) and Terrence Malick’s The Tree of Life (2011). An absurd tale in the name of identity and self-agency that is made in spirit of what we believe to be one of the greatest cinematic triumphs: David Lynch’s Twin Peaks: The Return (2017).
Additional Inspirations:
- Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998, directed by Terry Gilliam)
- Taxi Driver (1976, directed by Martin Scorsese)
- Scream (1996, directed by Wes Craven)
- Blue Velvet (1986, directed by David Lynch)
- Wild at Heart (1990, directed by David Lynch)
- American Pie (1999, directed by Chris Wetiz and Paul Weitz)
- Mirror (1975, directed by Andrei Tarkovsky)
- The Craft (1996, directed by Andrew Fleming)
Who helped us?
- We’ve had friends become Resident Advisors and have become friends with our own Resident Advisors. Within our relationships the illusion of control is shattered, in order to advise the path of someone else you have to understand their perspective. With the help of our story team, we crafted a parallel world that reflects the beautifully diverse climate of our world.
