Helping the Hughes Family
Donation protected
Many of us know Tammy (Hughes) from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy (SCCJA), as she has been a faithful employee to the CJA for over 21 years. Some of us know her (affectionately) as the infamous "reaper" from BLE, while others as the go-to for all things that you may need at the CJA. Regardless, we all know (and adore) her incredible commitment to each of us, and warm personality.
The South Carolina Training Officer's Association (SCTOA) is actively raising money to assist the Hughes family with expenses related to the recent cancer diagnosis of their son, Justin. It is our hope that we may be able to raise enough money to help offset some of these (uncovered) cost, and hopefully give the Hughes family one less thing to worry about during this trying time. Tammy has been a loyal supporter of our Blue Family, quietly supporting us in the background for many years....and in our family, NOBODY is supposed to fight alone!
Justin is 23 years old, and has just been diagnosed with a form of Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Thankfully, it appears that the cancer was detected early in its development, and the prognosis is favorable at this point. While many of the medical expenses are covered, the treatment he needs requires that the Hughes family travel from SC to Jacksonville (FL) frequently; these expenses are not covered.
We realize that with the holidays, times are tight on a lot of us. That said, every little bit goes a long way to help us reach our goal. After all, this is a season built around the concept of "giving". Even if you do not have the cash to spare, which is understandable, there are also other creative ways to consider supporting our cause. For example, you may consider donating "points" (hotel, credit cards, etc.) or airline miles. If this is an option that you would like to consider, please contact us through the site, and the SCTOA Secretary, Sgt. Grady Gonzales (York County S.O.) will get in touch with you to explore what options you may have.
Lastly, we appreciate you taking the time to consider this humble request for our beloved friend's family. Tammy is known all across the State of South Carolina for her ability to always deliver when we are in need....we only hope that we are able to help pay her back in kind with our support in her time of need.
Very respectfully,
Lt. Joshua W. Solomon, President
