Hi my name is Cheryl Wilker. Emily is my sisters grandaughter, and this is our Story
Emily age 8 years old was taken to the hospital because her family was concerened about her paleness. The doctors did blood work and have since told the family , That Emily has Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. She had her bone marrow checked and had surgery to have a port put in and has started heavy chemo. She does have to be in the hospital for at least a month.
She will have some medications given to her every day. But chemo once a week. After the Month providing ever thing works out the way they think it will, then she will be in remission. But she will still have to get chemo regularly and will be in and out of the hospital for the next 8-9 months. Emily will not be able to attend school until March 2016. She will not beable to participate and take part of many daily life activities as she is very likely to get germs and infections and this will effect her treatment.
Then will be put on maintenance chemo treatments just to make sure that they get all the bad cells out. In 2.5 to 3 years she will be cured. Th e results of the bone marrow test came back and confirmed that the cancer has not gone into her spine or brain.
Bri anne ( Emily's Mother ) is unable to leave her side and sleeps everynight at the hospital and had to take a leave from work and will be off work for at least 9 months . John ( Emily's father ) is unable to be by Emily's side everyday as he has to work and also care for Emily's two Brothers Riley and Sean.
Please help us support this young Family that is battling Leukemia.
I will post updates on her recovery.
Thank you
Cheryl Wilker
