On December 5th, Serenity was taken to a local ER because of a little yellow in her eyes. While at the ER, the bloodwork showed her liver enzymes were elevated; they were reading over 1000 when they are supposed to be around 40. Serenity was then transported to Dartmouth where they ran more tests but could not figure out what was causing this. We were sent home and referred to a gastro specialist. We started working with the specialist that week where Serenity had to get more bloodwork done, and we still could not find the cause of her jaundice. Meanwhile, she is getting more and more yellow, and the gastro specialist wants to do a liver biopsy; however, they did not have availability to do it until mid-January. With Serenity’s numbers continuing to rise (now over 2,000) and her getting increasingly more jaundiced as well as being more tired than usual and not eating as much, we were told to go to Boston Children’s Hospital ER to get things taken care of expeditiously. On December 17th, we arrived at Boston Children’s Hospital where we were promptly admitted and tests were being run. Serenity went through her liver biopsy, where they found her liver is inflamed, and they think something is wrong with her immune system. We are still waiting on more answers as to what exactly is wrong. Serenity was started on steroids which are helping bring her numbers down, but they are still very high. So we remain in the hospital for the time being. We are hoping to be home by Christmas but are unsure if that is realistic at this point.

With all of this being said, we are very grateful Serenity is on the mend and getting better thanks to the wonderful doctors at Boston Children’s! However, we have had to miss multiple days of work this month due to hospital visits and doctors' appointments, which has caused a financial strain on us. This GoFundMe will help us with rent, bills, and groceries for a little while until we get fully back to work and back on our feet again!
