Locals know Xiomara Torres in Colombia as the most promising up-and-coming vocalist from Colombia’s Pacific Coast. She interprets Salsa, Boleros, and the UNESCO recognized Música del Pacífico. We are collaborating to bring her first album,
La Voz del Mar - released 07/15/2022 on Patois Records - to the forefront.
We are racing towards our goal to cover P.R., Radio Promotion and Art Design costs, ensuring that this album gets the coverage it deserves. The professional promotion not only helps Xiomara Torres as a Colombian artist gain credit but also brings visibility to Colombia's primarily ignored region by celebrating its cultural/ musical richness. This project shows the power of music to break borders, uniting pueblos from this region with some of the most iconic musicians of New York City and the SF Bay Area.
The COVID pandemic has changed the way of life for virtually everybody. Still, the impact is more rigid on musicians like Xiomara Torres, who make their living off of music and have little to no income due to the lack of concerts. Being located in Colombia further complicates the problem, as there are fewer regulations on professional formalities for musicians. Your donation is needed to help us combat this current crisis in the world, giving access to musicians like Xiomara to continue working and contributing class A music to Colombia's local scene and the international airwaves.
Details you need to know
Her debut project will penetrate the world’s virgin ears with her powerful and emotional voice, featuring diverse arrangements (by Dan Neville, SF Bay Area) to mirror her versatility and beauty. Like a jewel, she reflects the joy and passion to music that her hometown Guapi, Colombia is known for. We need your support to help this vision come true.
This CD will not only boost the career of this important artist, it will create work for musicians in Colombia, studio engineers and mixing/ mastering engineers. In Colombia there are NO stimulus checks, unemployment, or any help from the government, causing a lot of tension and financial burden.
This will help deserving musicians in Colombia by giving them an opportunity to work, to put food on the table and pay their bills. The long-term career sustaining benefits for Xiomara cannot be overstated.
What will the money go to?
The money will be split between musicians, studio, engineers, CD distribution, album artwork, publicist, radio promoter, social media promoter, musical arrangements, flights and accommodation. This leaves room for unexpected costs, as they always come up.

Extensive Details
In December 2019, Dan Neville launched an ambitious Indiegogo campaign called “Cali to Cali” with the goal to raise funds for recording equipment, which Dan would take to Cali, Colombia and trade for marimba lessons with master Colombian marimba player Diego Obregón.
Why?
On Dan’s first trip to Colombia, he realized that there is prolific music being made in Cali, Colombia and that by supporting it would help Colombians have an opportunity to record, preserve and share this innovative music. Dan arrived to Cali in January 2020 with two suitcases packed to the brim with gear, including a Neumann TLM-103 and a new-used MacBook Pro.
In February 2020 they featured the recording project of Revelación del Pacífico, a group of young musicians from Juanchaco, Colombia. The Cali to Cali campaign covered their travel expenses, hotel and food, and enabled them to record this 5- song EP in a weekend. They recorded all original tunes in folkloric styles, with traditional instrumentation: Marimba, bombo, cununo, guasa, and voices. The songs remain on a private soundcloud playlist, accessible only to those who donated to Cali to Cali.
In March, Dan found himself stuck in Cali, Colombia due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the closed borders. He remained safe, frequently visiting Obregón and overseeing several recording projects with local groups.
In July, Diego unexpectedly passed away, signifying an insurmountable loss to Colombia’s music community. Dan was asked by Obregón’s family to help collaborate with Diego's son to rebuild the studio at their new residence.
By October 2020 the studio was up and running with insulated walls, sealed doors and windows, two rooms functioning as a control booth and live room, and a refined set of gear made possible by donors contributing for his family’s losses. In combination with help from local professional engineers, Dave has taken on the role as the studio engineer for
Dreams of Chonta Studios
, recording and mixing daily in honor and legacy of his father, Diego Obregón.
What if we don't raise enough?
The absolute minimum for this project involves paying the musicians and studio engineer, the CD cover artist, the publicist and the radio promoter (in this case being a first tier level for radio promotion). It's of utmost importance that we are not only creating quality music, but that it is being shared as much as it deserves.
What if we raise more than our goal?
If we reach more than our goal, this would enable us to hire a professional videographer and shoot a music video in Colombia. It would also allow us to print 200 special edition vinyl records- a must have for the die-hard collector!
