Ximena Quiroz our DJ master, tattoo expert, cat caretaker, radio host, elder goth friend suffered a severe stroke and was admitted to the hospital on March 13th. She is lucid and can speak. She has 4 IVs pumping an endless barrage of drugs and vitamins in her brain and one directly jacked into her heart. She has lost mobility on her left side. She is still in the Neurotrauma ICU under constant watch. The subarachnoid bleeding is under control. There are new titanium coils in her brain. She is recently off the feeding tube. However, her road to recovery will be long and tiresome. And yes, expensive.

Ximena owns her own tattoo parlor and has another part time job in the service industry. There is no ETA as to when she will be released from the ICU. Returning to work seems like an impossible task for the near future.

Ximena is tough and prides herself on being self sufficient. “I’m not dead yet!” she told me to say to you all. As we all know, GoFundMe is how we subsidize health care in this country. She thankfully has OHP, but that does not cover wage loss for dealing with this health crisis. Bills are coming up this April and money will be tight. The staggering hospital bills will tsunami in the near future, but for now we need to keep Ximena housed and fed for the next few months.

Ximena is a tireless and dedicated member of so many communities here in Portland. You all know what a treasure she is.
