School Fees & Desks for Chiphaso

Hello future doners!

We are giving crowdfunding a try as we are not able to raise this money on our own, and we need your help.

We are two Spanish volunteers that recently graduated college (June 2015) and have been working as teachers at a community Secondary School in the village of Chiphaso, located in the central region district of Kasungu in the warm heart of Africa, Malawi. 

Our experience here at the school has been amazing. We have learned more from the students than they have learned from us, and we have been able to see with our own eyes the challenges these kids face every day.

This is the reason we present our project here today. We have the idea of raising 1,500 EUR, which here in Malawi amounts to roughly 900,000MK (Malawian Kwacha), which as you can figure out is a lot of money here.

The funds will be used in two ways:

1. Desks for Form 1 (9th Grade). These students are forced to sit in benches with no back support, and in the absence of desks they use each others' backs, the wall and the floor. We think (and we speak from experience as we have spent three months teaching in these same classrooms), that desks are the key to concentration, focus in class and good exam performance.

2. School fees for underpriviledged children. The unfavourable economic situation of Malawi and the rising cost of school fees will force families to sacrifice their kids' education in order to put food on the table. We regard this as unnacceptable and we want to support these families by providing funds for their fees.

We created a blog where you can track our development in the school and better understand the precarious situation these kids live in (we haven't been able to update it as much as we would have wanted to due to electricity shortage and lack of a proper Internet connection).
