Hi, my name is Tamara. I am 53 years old and I’m fundraising for my medical needs and monthly housing needs. It all started a year and a half ago when my eye doctor saw something disturbing in a standard yearly test that we’re all used to getting, never sure of what the tests are for but used to hearing that there are no problems with the results…except this year there was a problem. After many follow-ups and doctor appointments I found out that a have a vision-threatening condition, a tributary branch retinal occlusion. I began treatment which included having an injection into my eyeball once monthly. That was my left eye, nine months into this treatment I noticed a splotch in my right eye vision.
To my horror, when I went in to have it checked, that vision-threatening condition was affecting my right eye and in only a day I had effectively become blind in one eye. Now I was having these eye injections in both eyes. Thankfully I got my vision back in my right eye. So, during all of this, I work full-time plus, meaning 50 hours a week and I buy the best health insurance my job offers. For some reason, though; my eye appointments weren’t getting paid by my insurance provider. It turns out that because of the classification of drug they were injecting in my eye, my insurance would only pay for anything after the first $750 of billed services per appointment. Now, present day, I am still having these injections in both eyes every month. Unfortunately, I was injured at work on June 3, off work for two weeks to heal. I went back to work for one day when a horrible bleeding, blistery-pussey, weeping rash broke out around my knee because of the brace the doctors had given me to wear at work. I am in more pain than I can explain with words. The worst thing about it all is that I’m going to lose my home and my insurance benefits unless I figure out how to come up with thousands of dollars within the next couple of weeks. If anyone can help, I would be grateful. Thank you in advance for your consideration.
