This is a story about Emma. A beautiful girl taken unexpectedly. Please consider donating to assist the family with the unexpected cost of a funeral.

April 18th, 2024, is a day that will never be forgotten. That day, God called our Angel, Emma Mia Edwards, to join him in Heaven. Emma was the most beautiful person with a heart of gold. Her smile and kindness could brighten a room. She touched so many lives in her short time with us. She spent most of her life living in Alaska before moving to Kermit, TX, with her adoptive mother, Lisa. She loved being around family and friends. In Alaska, Emma enjoyed camping and fishing with her family. When she moved to Kermit, she got into softball, fashion designing, painting, and drawing. Emma was an exceptional student and loved by all her teachers. She was excited to turn 16 next year and get a giant pink Jeep. Emma was girly who loved getting dressed up, but had a tomboy side to her. She had a very bright future ahead of her. She originally wanted to be a chef when she got older but decided a pastry chef was more fitting since she enjoyed eating and making sweet treats more.

As many may know, Lisa Johnson-Edwards fell in love and adopted Emma after many years of fostering her and her younger brother Brian. Lisa had always welcomed her children with open arms and loved them as her own. Her house was called the “safe house.” It was a place for anyone to come, no matter the circumstance. She wanted to make sure no child ever felt unloved or alone. Over the last 20+ years, Lisa has taken in over 20 children and legally adopted 8. She has never asked for any assistance with these children, and still, to this day, never would. Just like her daughter Emma, she has a heart of gold. She has shown nothing but love and support for all her children. She was providing them with everything they would ever need in life. She truly is a saint, and words could never describe what she has done for everyone.

Her death was unexpected. She was a perfectly healthy girl on Friday afternoon. She was jumping around, eating pizza, watching movies, enjoy their Friday night Family night. By the end of the night, her family thought she had a stomach bug, and then by Monday, she was in ICU, and by Thursday, she was declared brain dead. It was so sudden. One minute, she was a happy girl enjoying her time with the family, and the next, she was gone. The family is still seeking answers to what happened to their baby girl, but the cause is still unknown. Emma was so amazing in life and she continued that in death. Her organs and tissues were donated to save many life’s and help burn victims. The family will always know that Emma death has provided a new beginning for another.
