Jacob's Journey

At birth, Jacob’s family was told he was “incompatible with life,” and yet here he is smiling and growing each day! Jacob was born with Trisomy 13, a condition that is extremely rare and includes a complex medical journey. Jacob has needed machines to help him breathe and eat, countless doctor appointments and hospital stays, and many nursing friends who help mom and dad care for Jacob at home. Everything might be on “Jacob Time,” but it doesn’t mean he can’t grow, learn, and love! He is known for his big smiles, mischievous sense of humor, and for being a drama king. Some of Jacob’s favorite things include snuggles with his mom and dad, being outside, the breeze from fans, and being held.

As Jacob grows, his need for additional space also grows. His medical equipment and supplies take over the small space Jacob would rather use to do his therapy exercises or play with his toys! A larger space would allow Jacob to have this dedicated therapy space, a handicap accessible bathroom, much needed storage shelves, and a ramp to make it easier on mom and dad to transport him throughout the house!

In order to provide this space for Jacob, the garage will be converted into a dedicated room for him. It will include many accommodations to make Jacob's care smoother for mom and dad as well as his nurses. Manny Riehl, contractor with Riehl Residential, will be coordinating the construction and overseeing any volunteers who would like to donate their skills and time!
