Hank's Medical Bills

Donation protected
Everyone meet Hank, a 7 month old Australian Cattle Dog with lots of energy and a ton of spunk. He is currently staying with an obedience trainer as she works on bringing down some of that spunk so he can be placed with a forever home. She took him into her home for training without any expectation or request for payment as rehabilitation and a forever home was more important.

Who is the trainer? Some of you may already know her as she has worked with/helped so many pet owners over the last 5 years. Her name is Jessica Quinton and she is a certified obedience trainer with a large focus on training service dogs for various needs and rehabilitating dogs with a range of behaviour issues.

She is a single, 25 year old, woman who works full time as the manager at Terra Nova Kennels and spends her days/evenings off doing obedience training for others. She lives and breathes animals. At home she has an Australian Shepherd (rescued), Rottweiler(rescued), Chihuahua, Beagle(rescued), 2 x Australian Cattle Dogs (one in training to be a service dog and the other in rehabilitation), corn snake(rescued) and a hedge hog(rescued).

Since I have known Jess (just over 3 years) she has leaped from her car in the middle of winter to save a stray kitten, rescued an injured fox, hand raised orphaned squirrels, fostered feral kittens & FIV+ cats, gone on dozens of rescue missions, volunteers ongoing for Beagle Paws, has taken in dogs on 5 separate occasions to rehabilitate and find them a home.

She goes without to make sure her dogs always have what they need. Between her mortgage payment, house insurance, car insurance, gas, food and other regular bills she makes sure that there is enough money to feed, vaccinate, spay/neuter and put some aside for emergencies (her 15 year old beagle has pancreatitis and an emergency vet visit is a routine occurrence).

But today Jess has run into a scenario that is any pet owners worst nightmare. While dropping off a friend they unknowningly let Hank out of the car, it was not realized until too late. In the matter of seconds.

While the car was slowly reversing, Hank was struck and has suffered an injury consisting of a bruised lung and a broken hind leg. It could have been a lot worse and we are thankful that it was not. The injury requires a vet stay until Thursday and a surgery that is just not financially feasible at this time. The quote runs from $3,559.59-$4,695.24 with half due on Tuesday morning and the rest on Thursday. Without the 50% deposit, the vet will not do the required surgery.

I have spent the morning brainstorming on how to fundraise and help a friend pay off a bill that I know is not in the realm of possibility without serious financial repercussions. Someone who has said in the past that she would never start a gofundme page because she would find out a way to pay, somehow. But today I have seen a friend in a bind and mindset that I have never seen before. Thinking of things to sell, money to borrow and ways to come up with money. If it weren't for terrible rotten luck than she wouldn't have any.

Jessica has helped so many people in the animal community that I hope there are some out there that may be able to afford any amount to help cover any portion of the bill that lays ahead.

My name is Candice Smallwood and am I Jessica's employer and friend. I will be withdrawing the money from the Gofund me page and tansferring the balance to Jessica as I have personally lent money as we have been waiting for GoFundMe to run us around in chircles preforming circus tricks to ge this needed money.
