For Malik

For those of you who do not know, LaToya’s son Malik has been in ICU since October 9th, fighting through COVID complicated by pneumonia. Malik’s challenges make it difficult for him to accept the much-needed support of medical professionals. Since being in ICU, he has pulled out his breathing tube multiple times and resisted other medical assistance. This makes it difficult for hospital staff to serve and support him.

 

On October 14th, LaToya received a phone call from the hospital nurse explaining that Malik may require specialized care. This specialized care may include Malik being put into an induced coma to help his lungs recover. The hospital staff has also asked LaToya and her family to consider a possible do-not-resuscitate order. For now, they have elected to suspend making one of these two difficult choices and are trying to hold out hope for Malik’s recovery.

 

Malik is currently sedated, and hospital staff wants to intubate him for extra lung support. However, there is concern that his lungs may not be able to handle this. If this is the case, Malik may require long-term solutions, including a tracheotomy. These frightening options have led to LaToya, and her family living in an unending state of emotional exhaustion.

 

To make this already difficult situation worse, LaToya cannot go to the hospital to see Malik in person because, as some of you know, she is recovering from COVID herself and has to take care of Marcella and baby Maxine. Her husband also lost his job due to the situation with having to be at the hospital and handling family matters.

 

As you can imagine, this has been extremely hard on LaToya and her family’s emotional state, causing them a great deal of grief and anxiety.

 

To support LaToya, a friend to so many of us, as she and her family survive these difficult days, I have set up this Go Fund Me Account. I hope together we can give some of the support back to LaToya that she has given to all of us.

 

All proceeds will go directly to her family, helping them address their living expenses while supporting Malik at the hospital. Any weight we can lift off their shoulders could make all the difference in the world. Malik, as you know, is a fighter. Let’s come together and fight for him and his family.
