Support Westmoreland, Jamaica After Hurricane Melissa
My name is Kim Washington and although I live in the US, my roots are deeply planted in Jamaica, specifically in Westmoreland, where my family is from. This parish shaped the people I love most, and seeing it devastated by Hurricane Melissa has been heartbreaking. Many of the same communities my family comes from are now struggling to survive. Families who were already living modestly are now facing the unimaginable: homes washed away, belongings destroyed, roads blocked, crops ruined, and entire communities struggling to meet their most basic needs.
Many residents are now without food, clothing, shelter, hygiene items, and everyday essentials. Mothers are in urgent need of sanitary napkins and personal care supplies, children need clean clothing, and countless households are searching for a safe place to sleep as they try to rebuild their lives from nothing.
This fundraiser was created to provide direct, immediate relief to the people of Westmoreland who are suffering in the aftermath of the storm.
How Your Donations Will Be Used
All funds raised will go toward purchasing and delivering essential items for families throughout the parish, including:
- Non-perishable food (rice, canned goods, infant formula, bottled water)
- Clothing and footwear for men, women, and children
- Emergency shelter supplies (tarps, mattresses, blankets)
- Hygiene and personal care items including sanitary napkins, soap, deodorant, toothpaste, and diapers
- Basic household items to help families restart their daily lives
- Every dollar will be used with care, transparency, and intention to ensure the greatest impact.
Distribution Plan
We are partnering with trusted community leaders, churches, and local volunteers on the ground in Westmoreland to ensure supplies reach the families who need them most. Distribution will take place in:
- Savanna-la-Mar
- Auldyr and surrounding communities
- Other affected districts identified during outreach
Donations will be packed and delivered directly to households and centralized community locations where families can safely gather to receive assistance. We will also prioritize single mothers, the elderly, and families who have lost their homes.
Updates will be posted regularly so donors can see exactly how their contributions are helping to rebuild lives.
Why Your Support Matters
The people of Westmoreland are resilient, but this disaster has pushed many beyond their limit. A small contribution from you can mean the difference between a family going hungry or having a warm meal… a child sleeping on the ground or sleeping on a mattress… a mother struggling silently or receiving the dignity of proper hygiene supplies.
No donation is too small. Your kindness will directly touch the lives of people who urgently need help and hope.
Please give what you can and share this fundraiser widely. Together, we can help Westmoreland rise again.
