Nathan's Trip to Fort Smith
Donation protected
My name is Kate Seymour and I am a 53 year old single mom, artist/photographer who works in a photo lab in Victoria, B.C. I have a 43 year old brother with Down's Syndrome named Nathan who lives with a caregiver. I look after him two weekends a month. In about a month I want to take him on a trip to the Northwest Territories to visit family, specifically my 86 year old father and our brother and his family. Nathan has not been to Fort Smith for about 15 years. Both of our parents are elderly, in poor health and cannot afford to help. I have 2 weeks holiday and I want to drive up there with him for this memorable visit. Every summer he asks about going on a trip to Fort Smith and I want to give that to him. My brother is diabetic and his care is carefully regimented with six meals a day, two insulin shots, and frequent blood glucose monitoring. Driving to Fort Smith in the Northwest Territories would require taking our time and staying in motels for at least three nights on the way there and three nights on the way back. Family is very important to this remarkable person and I want to help Nathan realize his dream of a road trip to Fort Smith.
