Help Save Finn

Hi my name is Gianna, I’m 19 and my horse’s name is Finnegan (Finn for short). Finn is 11 & he is my first horse that I bought a little over a year ago. When I got Finn I was told he would eventually need surgery to remove a dead testicle and it would be a $1,000 fix. Unfortunately when I brought Finn to Tufts Animal Hospital it was discovered that he actually has an infected abscess that probably originated from when he was originally castrated. The infection has been slowly brewing and has spread into his sheath spreading towards his abdomen. If this is left untreated the infection will spread through the rest of his body and he will become septic. The infection is bad enough that the vet says antibiotics won’t touch it. Finn needs a surgery as soon as possible. They plan to go in and take out all the infected tissue and fluids and then leave the wound open to heal from the inside out. He will then need to stay in the hospital for 2-3 days for observation after the surgery. Then I can bring him home to heal. The full estimated recovery time is about 3 months, assuming there are no complications. With this being said the vet gave me an estimate of $7,000-$8,000. I unfortunately do not have this kind of money saved up and because of my age I don’t have any credit to get a lone or a line of credit. Most of the money I saved for his “dead testicle” surgery has already been spent on exams, ultrasounds & bloodwork. Finn is such a friendly horse and loved so much. I couldn’t imagine my life without my best friend. Any amount of help would be greatly appreciated. Even if you can only share this post to help spread the word.
