Help Beth Beat Cancer
For the past ten years, Beth Eisenzimmer has helped thousands of children to heal from the trauma of child abuse and neglect that they suffered at the hands of an abuser. Now Beth needs help to heal and to recover financially from a devastating diagnosis of stage 3 cervical cancer. As the Family Advocate Coordinator for four Children’s Advocacy Centers in Virginia that stretches from Carroll County to Bedford County, Beth recently received the “Unsung Hero” award from Virginia’s Attorney General for her work on behalf of victims of crime. Her job and passion is to help children and their families get the resources they need to heal from abuse and neglect.
In November, 2020, Beth started feeling unwell and in two weeks, was diagnosed with Stage 3 cancer. She has had chemo and radiation treatments in Roanoke and at Duke Cancer Center. Unfortunately, her paid leave will run out before she finishes her treatments and can successfully return to work. Beth is the main breadwinner in her home and the expenses already are overwhelming them.
Beth is also the handler for Elvis, a Facility Dog trained by Saint Francis Service Dogs for his role of providing comfort for children as they relate their story of abuse during a forensic interview at the Children’s Advocacy Center. Before her diagnosis Beth noticed that Elvis was having issues with not wanting to leave her side and wanting to be in her constant presence. We now strongly suspect that Elvis knew that Beth was sick before anyone else knew. Elvis is now spending his time comforting Beth and assisting Beth as she works toward her own healing.
As her co-workers and friends, we want Beth to focus less on the financial pressure and more on getting well so she can get back to one of her passions: helping families in need. Another of her passions is hiking and she was planning to through-hike the Appalachian Trail early in this decade. Relieving the financial strain will allow Beth to focus on staying strong to beat cancer. Beth is a warrior and has always stood strong for others; now it’s our turn to fight for Beth. Will you help us help Beth? Your financial support towards travel back and forth to Duke, daily living expenses, and medical bills not covered through her insurance would mean so much!
Please donate anything you can to help and share Beth's story so others can help, too. Thank you!!
