Bruce Richard Sparks is an incredible 5 year old boy that has overcome 3 corrective open heart surgeries and several other health obstacles as a result of being born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. Unfortunately at this time, his heart continues to function poorly. Sadly Bruce’s heart has gone into congestive heart failure and he will need a near future heart transplant. A heart transplant is known to be one of the most complicated and expensive, averaging to be a 1 million dollar transplant. http://www.transplants.org/faq/how-much-does-transplant-cost http://www.investopedia.com/financial-edge/0310/top-10-most-expensive-medical-procedures.aspx
Bruce’s transplant will be performed at Golisano Children’s Hospital, in Rochester, New York. “Golisano Children’s Hospital is ranked one of the best pediatric heart centers in New York State, and the University of Rochester Medical Center is one of the top 25 cardiovascular research centers in the U.S. Over 120 heart transplants for heart failure patients have occurred since 2001.” https://www.urmc.rochester.edu/cardiology/patient-care/treatments-procedures/heart-transplant.aspx
Most importantly keep this child and his family in your meditation and prayers. Remaining healthy and consuming 80 grams of protein daily is critical for his future heart transplant to occur. 80 grams of protein is substantial, as this is 4 times the amount recommended for a child of his age. With this said, his caregivers take this living essential seriously to prevent illness. Keeping Bruce’s diet enticing and rich in protein as well as at a reasonable cost is not easy.
Both parents adore their son and work hard outside the home to support him and their other two children. When Bruce is hospitalized his parents are always by his side. His parents are incredibly dedicated to provide for their children. When Bruce is hospitalized for an extended amount of time he is always put first; his parents however need to alternate working shifts to be able to meet their selfless expenses.
Without a wavering doubt Bruce’s family, teachers, and administrative staff believe he will remain healthy and receive a transplant that allows him to endure the great purpose that lies in his future.
Your positive energy can wash away the mountains that lay before this child.
Thank you to those that keep Bruce and his family in your thoughts and time of prayer. Donations will support the cost of his future transplant and recovery expenses.
