Xena's Heart Surgery
We first learned of Xena's congenital heart sac defect a year ago after rushing her to the vet for munching on tulip leaves, and the vet took an X-Ray. It revealed what we thought was an abnormally monstrous heart.
After a consultation with a heart specialist, we learned that the heart wasn't enlarged (thankfully!) but that her heart sac had opened at some point and enveloped the liver. It's something that can cause serious issues, but as the specialist put it, "It could be a problem tomorrow, or it might never be a problem." She estimated that it would take $2,000 - $3,000 to go in and fix.
We have to have a consultation with a surgeon before the surgery can happen, and that's when we would receive a more concrete quote, but we need at least $2k before we can even think about that!
Xena has been a huge blessing in my life. I live with clinical depression and her mere presence decreases my symptoms and ensures that I will get out of bed every day, if only to take care of her. Some days I only keep my job because I want to provide for her. Other days I'm alive solely because of my kitty.
I am confident that, given time, we will raise the amount needed for Xena's surgery on our own, but I also worry that we may not have that time. So many people have already contributed to our goal and their gifts to my kitty give me gratitude, humility, and hope. If you have an extra dollar, please think of my baby kitty!
