Hi! My name is Lucia and I’m a third-year Film Production student at the University of Southern California.

I’m currently in the process of directing my 5-minute thesis short film, BeLoved. It’s a comedy that revolves around my favorite social media app, BeReal, and the protagonist’s unhealthy, absurd, obsession with it. It’s ultimately a film that plays on the dysfunction of social media and how it affects our relationships. I honestly just wanted to make a silly, campy, and obnoxiously dramatic film that would be fun to shoot. Although my main goal with the film was to make a piece that would make people laugh, some themes I hope to explore are social media addiction and the need for external validation online.

All the expenses for my film must come out of pocket. By helping me finance the film, I can successfully secure the resources necessary to make my vision a reality.

The funds raised will go to:

• Location Cost - I’m filming on-location at a real bar/restaurant in Culver City, which is crucial to creating the atmosphere I need for the story. There is also the added cost of the location permit for filming in Culver City and other location-related expenses. The bulk of the funds will be allocated to covering the hefty location fee.

• Transportation Cost - Transporting all the equipment and gear we need will be challenging, since we will need to rent a car or resort to ubers. We also need to set up an emergency uber fund for cast and crew members that do not have cars.

• Food & Catering - In the extremely limited time that I have to shoot my film, it’s essential that my cast and crew maintain great energy throughout our shoot day. This means that everyone needs to be well-fed and happy. Your contribution ensures that everyone on set has everything they need to bring their best to the project.

• Equipment Rental - I’m renting both camera and sound equipment that are needed for the film that my school does not provide.
