Feeling like you’re going to pass out at any moment, nausea, blurred vision-or even worse-having a limb amputated or losing vision permanently. These are the daily, debilitating fears that make living with diabetes a constant struggle for our patients at Clínica Tepati. With the help of volunteer undergraduates, medical students, and preceptors, our non-profit has worked tirelessly since 1974 to educate and treat the uninsured and underserved Latino population of Sacramento on how to live healthy lives and cope with their diabetes. Make no mistake these patients do everything in their power to rid themselves of this disease, of which they themselves are terrified. But diabetes is often cruel and follows its own course. That is why Clínica Tepati is here for these patients. We are the safety-net that serves them, educates them, and comforts them when they have no where else to go.
In honor of diabetes awareness month, we ask you to help us in supporting our diabetic patients! Here’s what your donations can do:
For $10.00 you can buy a month’s supply of their lancets, which they need to check their blood sugar levels, often multiple times a day.
For $25.00 you can buy a month’s supply of their medication, an absolute necessity for every diabetic patient.
For $50.00 you can pay for a month’s supply of test strips, a very costly commodity which patient’s often dangerously ration at the expense of monitoring their blood sugar levels regularly.
For $200.00 you can pay a month’s supply of a patient’s insulin. This is a very unfortunate last resort to which there is simply no other option.
Any dollar amount will go a long way to helping a patient in need. Please do not think that any donation is “too small.”
Again we are a non-profit clinic; supporting our patient’s medications month to month becomes very challenging for us financially. As long as we have the money, we will NEVER say no to a patient or make them pay what we know they cannot afford, but sometimes we simply do not have the money. It’s scary, wrong, and we hope this never has to be the case. Please remember, every penny you donate is for the service of people who cannot afford the very medications they need to live and support their families.
