My friend Alieu, a permanent resident of Canada,  is currently unable to return from Senegal to Canada because flights outbound from Senegal have been prohibited. The Canadian embassy organized a single flight for Canadians back home Sunday March 29th. The cost of a single ticket is going to be approximately $5000 according to the diplomatic representatives and Alieu is currently stuck in Senegal running out of funds and medication for his chronic illness. The emergency assistance fund put in place by the Canadian government is unfortunately only available to Canadian citizens and not permanent residents. We are well aware that this is a difficult time for everyone but this could rapidly escalate into a life threatening situation for Alieu if he is not able to return to Canada immediately. Let's show solidarity towards our fellow friend and community member.
