Holly needs a new electric bed

Donation protected
I'm Holly. I was diagnosed with Limb Girdle Muscular Dystrophy (LGMD) 13 years ago.
LGMD is a condition which makes the proteins in your muscles deteriorate over time, leaving the sufferer weaker and weaker from the neck down.
I use a wheelchair for all mobility, which you can imagine isn't the most comfortable apparatus in the world.
This is where my special bed comes in. I need an electrical adjustable bed that sits me up and gives my body relief from gravity!
Last week the motor of my old bed just died. Splat. Noone could fix it or replace it (as it was a very old cheap model), so I had to order a brand new electric bed.
With all the modifactions I need (specialty mattress, electronic controls, etc), it ended up costing AU$5000!
Must. Not. Cry.

Now I am a PhD student researching therapy for autistic children. It's my passion. I love my ASD kids. Obviously this doesn't leave me much time to work and earn piles of money, so this bed is a major scary purchase.

I'm usually a fiercely independent fighter who only accepts help when I really need it, so asking for help is really difficult.

I need this bed. It's not a luxury. I need it to sit up in to write my dissertation. I need it to hold me up so I can feed myself. I need it to alleviate my pain.

So please, if you know what it's like to be uncomfortable in bed, help a sister cripple out!
