Please Help Save SOX!

Hi my name is Kristan and I created this for our sweet big fat fluffy cool cat, SOX. I have never asked for donations before so I don’t know what I’m doing. So I will start at the beginning and tell you our story. I’m very detailed so bear with me…

Sox is the best cat pal ever! He is so good to all of our kids, even when they may get a little rough with him because they don’t know better, he handles it like a champ. The boys were 14, 5, & 3 when Sox was born right here at our house from our other cat Karissa. He was the only one not picked out of that litter so we say he picked us.

He has slept with Blaze almost every day since, some days Sox is Blaze’s pillow and others it’s switched. He also cuddles with the rest of us at different times but mostly Blaze. He loves soft fluffy blankets, he sleeps like 20hrs a day. He plays very little but he does get a wild hair every once in a while and will take the kids nerf bullets and chase it around or take off after Karissa thru the house. He goes outside to relieve himself and will sunbathe on the roof of the front porch or hang out in our little patch of woods out back. Again not very long since he’s super lazy and prefers to sleep. His personality is best described as Garfield but he’s grey. He did have an orange feline friend that hung out on our roof with him for a while. He literally gets along with everyone and everything. He does not know danger, just love and fun!

My son Blaze came to me last night asking about Sox as he and his brothers have done many times since this started but this time he looked more sad. He said to me thinking hard “mom, can we use all our money to fix Sox and bring him home?” with a heavy heart, I told him I’d do everything I could to do just that. Sox is his best buddy! This is what ultimately lead me here.

⭐️Sometime Thursday night after we went to bed Sox was shot. My oldest son Braiden found him around 11pm all bloody and not acting like himself so he came and got me out of bed. We thought he had been in a fight with something, maybe missing a tooth at worst. There were no indications his wounds were this severe. He’s a tough boy!

*this was him when we found him. I was trying to get a good look at his face without touching it*

I called our family Vet and they told me what to keep an eye out for so I did. I got up every 2 hrs to check on him until I took him in on Friday. At first glance the Dr. thought he had been clipped by a car because she could tell his jaw was broken so she suggested X-rays. His lower right K9 tooth was aligned with his upper left K9 tooth, that's how far his jaw was shifted from being shattered. When she came back she said he had been shot and a bullet is in his head/neck and it needed to be removed immediately so it didn’t migrate to his carotid artery and kill him. Plus his jaw bone was shattered from the bullet. My heart sank and I felt sick. Who would do such a thing?

*yellow arrow is bullet; white is shattered jaw bone*

So the Dr suggested we go to a ER vet. So we picked the closest one and went (45 min away). I was there until midnight with him and waiting on the Dr to do surgery. When she came in she said his surgery would have to wait until Monday when their surgeon who could handle this would be in and even then he may suggest sending Sox to a dental specialist. We decided with the Dr to keep him on pain meds, get an IV started for fluids, his meds and antibiotics and they would insert a feeding tube for nutrition until Monday/Tuesday. He’s been like this since midday Saturday. He has a nurse at all times and they call me 2x a day to let me know how he’s doing and discuss further care.

Today they called to see if we would like to take him to the dental specialist to see what they can do. Tomorrow the one surgeon will be in who may can go in and remove the bullet and shattered pieces to his jaw and he live without it. (They said many cats live long healthy lives without that section) or I can take him to the dental specialist and they can remove the bullet and see if it’s possible to reconstruct his jaw or remove that section. Again many cats live without a section of their mandible due to cancer so his surgery would be very similar.

I’m at a crossroad now because this has all added up very quickly financially. We have spent $2,000 for his care so far. The surgeon where he’s at will cost approx. $4,000 to do that surgery. If we choose the dental specialist it will definitely costs more. So here I am asking my family, friends, and strangers to help save Sox!

~If you know me personally you are welcome to send a donation other ways if you chose.

I promise to share updates on Facebook about his care and recovery here on my page ----> Save Sox
-IF we receive more money than we need to have his surgery, I will donate the rest to another animal that needs help to survive, most likely at the ER Sox is currently at.
-IF we don't receive enough to have his surgery we will peacefully euthanize him at home then donate the remainder in donations.
My prayers is to bring Sox home to his brothers!! Thank you to everyone who will donate and has sent love and prayers to my fur baby and for my family! I greatly appreciate it!!
