My name is Laura and I am fundraising for Krista. Krista recently had a very scary and shocking medical emergency.

On Sunday, Krista noticed a small mark on her breast. it was slightly painful but nothing too concerning. By Tuesday the issue had spread significantly and Krista was taken to the hospital. By Tuesday night she went in for emergency surgery to remove the infection in her breast. It was determined that Krista had necrotising fasciitis or flesh eating bacteria. Given that Krista hadn’t been outside of her home the week prior, no one was sure how she was infected. The doctors had to cut away a lot of the breast to remove the dead tissue and decided she would need to go back in for surgery the next day. It was during that second procedure that the decision was made to remove Krista’s breast in order to save her life. Krista then needed a third procedure the day after the breat removal. The testing determined that the infection was caused by strep. After an incredibly scary and painful week, Krista’s infection is finally resolving but she has a very long, hard road to recovery ahead of her.

During this difficult time Krista will be presented with many expensive medical bills along with rent, utility bills and potential future medical bills she may incur. She will be spending her time in rehab and eventually getting reconstructive surgery. Due to her position as a freelance audio engineer she will not have an income during this time as she will need to focus on her recovery
