Aloha, My name is Suzy.. My beautiful golden retriever is named Kaya. These are photos of her before she became sick.
She recently became lethargic, laying all day in my house one day and would not eat or drink, she felt hot to me and something seemed wrong with her eyes.
I thought maybe she was just tired. I let her rest for one day, and the next day she was in the same condition. I then rushed her to the animal hospital. Where they kept her for 2 nights and tried to find out what was wrong with her.
Finally after blood tests, ultra sounds, IVS of antibiotics, steroids and blood transfusions they discovered that she has an auto immune disease called Evans disease. Or thrombocytopenia. Which means she has very low platelet count in her body, which causes bleeding into the tissues. As a result the doctors told me she has some hemoraging in head which caused her retinas to detach, and she is now blind. She was stable after the blood transfusion and the hospital said I could bring her home and give her expensive medications to treat her in hopes she may make it. The animal hospital charged me 5180.57 total for her care.
Twice a week I now take her to our local vet for blood check counts to see if she has improved. 160.00 per visit. She may need another blood transfusion which helped her. Due to Covid I really have no money, and spent my life savings trying to say my dog. Im out of work since there are no tourists allowed in Hawaii and I ran a tourist business. We have been out of work for 6 months now. Its hard to buy food and help my dog with no money.
Her blood count is slowly coming up but I still need constant vet apt. To check her blood and possibly another blood transfuion. She wants to live! She gets up and walks into the yard and wags her tail, and is trying to hold on to life. She has to rest frequently but refuses to give up.
I want to give here a chance to live but Im running out of money and could really use some help. Id like to get some of the money back I spent at the hospital to feed my dog, myself, and pay her vet bills to keep her alive.
I believe she can recover with some help and if I have the money to keep her alive. If she gets better Id also like to look into trying to get her eyes fixed she can see again. But mainly Im just trying to give her a chance to live right now.
