Hi, I’m Champ—an old boy who's young at heart. I was rescued by my mum and dad three years ago, and ever since, they’ve showered me with love, kindness and endless cuddles.

My mum would tell you my zest for life is inspiring. Despite everything I’ve been through, I’m always happy and make everyone around me smile. I love sunbaking in the backyard, going for walks and cuddling with my mum and dad.

This past Sunday, their worst nightmare became reality. I had a fall down the stairs, and soon after, I became extremely lethargic. I couldn’t lift my head, I wasn’t eating or drinking and my back legs turned wobbly. Suddenly, I wasn’t able to walk at all.

Mum and dad rushed me to the emergency vet where an ultrasound revealed two tumours on my spleen, one of which had ruptured, causing severe internal bleeding. The vet recommended a CT scan first, to make sure the tumours hadn’t spread - and thankfully, there were no signs they had. Immediate surgery was the next step, so they could stop the bleeding and remove the tumours, which meant saying goodbye to my spleen.

I was a brave boy and am now recovering from surgery. However, my recovery doesn’t end here.

Mum and dad told me they would do everything they could to get me home. They exhausted their savings on my emergency surgery and now face ongoing costs to support my recovery.

While they’ve already paid the immediate surgery and hospitalisation, they need help with my continued care—including follow-up appointments, medications and whatever else I might need to stay happy, comfortable and by their side for as long as possible.

Although no amount of time will ever be enough, my mum and dad are trying to buy me a little more.
