In 2019 Lisa was diagnosed with breast cancer. She followed all protocols and fought to earn her spot in the 5 year survivorship club this past June. Unfortunately it was that same day that we were told she was being referred to the sarcoma team due to a mass in her neck. By July she had her first surgery to remove the rare Malignant Peripheral Nerve Sheath Tumor that was a result of her previous breast cancer radiation.
Our worlds were shook again in October when we learned that despite the previous complete removal, this aggressive cancer returned. On 11/7/24, Lisa had another surgery to remove the aggressive clusters of tumors. Unfortunately the surgery was put off too long, due to no fault of Lisa's. This has resulted in surgeon's being unable to remove all of the cancer as the progression has been too extensive.
We are now tasked with taking every step possible to prolong Lisa's life. There is no cure for this cancer and we know we are on borrowed time. Our treatment goal at this point is to prolong the inevitable spreading of tumors. Lisa's oncologist reminded us, as long as she is living, there is hope, hope that a cure will be found in time, to preserve and spare the beautiful life of this beloved mama, wife, daughter, sister and friend.
Lisa has touched and bettered so many of our lives. So many people have asked how to help and support her. Due to Ryan's injury which resulted in becoming permanently disabled in 2016, Lisa is the primary wage earner for her family. Hospital visits, travel, lodging, time away from work, medical bills, prescriptions, and supplements have become such that she and her family can not do this alone. In the upcoming weeks she will begin chemotherapy, radiation and hopefully be enrolled in a clinical trial, in hopes of prolonging her time with us. She will also have several consultations with physicians who are unfortunately not covered by insurance, nor are their treatment regiments.
Lastly, we desperately want to give Lisa and her family a break from this awful reality before she starts chemo. We would love to give them the gift of time away, to enjoy each other.
We appreciate all of the support and love everyone has shown. Your kindness is priceless and never forgotten.
