We must trust God in all things, including the time each of us is given here on earth. On Thursday January 5th, Jesus gently took Jason in His arms while telling him his job on earth was done and it was now time for him to come home to live with Him in Heaven.

Visitation will be Monday January 9th at Jones Funeral Home in Swansboro from 5:00-7:00.
Funeral services will be Tuesday January 10th at First Baptist Church on Gum Branch Road in Jacksonville at 11:00. Burial will follow in Swansboro.

We love you so much, Jason, and will always miss you.

Family and Friends,

For those of you who may not have heard, on Thursday, August 13th, Jason underwent an emergency surgery to remove a brain tumor that threatened his life. It’s scary to think that Jason, at 34 years old, and who his friends and family would describe as fun-loving, hard working, and a devoted husband to his wife Tracy and father to his children Gracie (13) and Little Jayson (9), could very easily not be here with us.

In 2008, after having a seizure, Jason discovered that he had a brain tumor, a grade 2 astrocytoma. He was blessed to have his first brain surgery performed by one of the best doctors in the county, Dr. Allan Friedman at Duke University Hospital. Unable to remove the entire tumor, Dr. Desjardins, a neuro-oncologist at the Brain Tumor Center at Duke, continued to monitor his tumor and through frequent MRIs and episodes of chemotherapy they were able to keep the tumor at bay. Those who know Jason and Tracy personally know they have kept information related to Jason’s condition close to home, always counting their blessings and thanking God for allowing Jason to receive the treatment needed. Throughout these years, Jason has maintained a positive attitude and continues to light up the room with his fun-loving personality. Jason has always taken pride in taking care of his family and providing for them by working as a fireman and running his lawn care business. He is thankful for the time he was able to spend serving Jacksonville Fire Department and is very appreciative of his firefighter family.

For months while on chemotherapy Jason’s MRIs remained stable, but at a routine appointment at the beginning of August his doctors informed Jason and Tracy, who has attended every appointment and hasn’t left Jason’s side, that there was unexpected tumor growth. Dr. Friedman, the surgeon who performed Jason’s first surgery, was consulted, and the decision was made to biopsy the tumor the following Wednesday. On Wednesday, August 12th, Jason reported to Duke University Hospital for his routine biopsy, but his condition rapidly worsened as the tumor quickly grew over a few days causing enormous pressure in Jason’s head. Thursday morning, in lieu of his routine biopsy, an emergency surgery was performed to save his life. Both his surgeon and neuro-oncologist stated they had never seen a tumor grow that fast. Once again, due to the Grace of God, the remarkable care he received at Duke, and his determination to get well, Jason is recovering from his second surgery. Unfortunately, Jason also suffered a stroke which left him with some visual impairment. Those who know Jason well can only imagine the emotional rollercoaster he’s on, realizing the limitations he now faces. But still he remains positive as his family continues to pray for healing and good health.

Tracy and Jason are so thankful for the support they have received from friends through prayers, visiting Jason while he was in the ICU, and assisting with his lawn care business. We ask God to wrap his loving arms around Jason and his family. We do not know what the future holds; only that there will be many challenges ahead. Many have inquired as to how they can help Jason and his family through this trying time. The family asks only for your prayers, but for those who have expressed an interest to help in other ways the family will be faced with significant medical bills and loss of income.
