Building Literacy, Breaking Barriers

Tax deductible

As students grapple with beginning a new school year online, struggling learners are more vulnerable than ever. The Augustine Literacy Project®️ of the Triangle (ALP-T) is ready to help area schools tackle their most challenging school year by offering new remote training and tutoring programs, developed this summer.

We need your support to make this happen. To help make your donation even more impactful, we have a generous, long-term funder who has agreed to match all donations up to $12,500 received by October 1, 2020. No gift is too small!

At ALP-T, we train and support volunteer tutors who provide free, long-term, one-to-one instruction to improve the literacy skills of children who might not otherwise have access to tutoring. Our mission matters more than ever.

Meet Jake and Louise. Jake is a local third-grade student at a Title I school who made great strides with his tutor Louise through weekly in-person tutoring at his school before the pandemic. When education went online in March due to COVID-19, Jake and Louise continued their tutoring sessions online. Louise reports that he is doing well with online instruction and says, “he is a different child, very focused, and has a new determination to learn!” Your support allows us to tutor more students like Jake and more tutors like Louise to grow and succeed.

In addition to the benefits a child receives learning new strategies with an Augustine tutor, families and teachers also benefit. We relieve parents, and often the teachers of delivering this of one-to-one learning. Most of our teachers are working to adapt classroom content to an online platform. ALP-T will provide essential support to families and teachers in addition to the children.

We are ready to deploy more than 50 trained tutors to work with students online. Over the summer, we adapted our program to be fully online and are pleased to have the systems, programs, and support in place to equip tutors, students, and their families. Our goal of $25,000 will allow us to address equity barriers

ALP-T’s program is designed around our passion for every child to have the opportunity to read, making a big difference in helping children succeed in school and life. Will you join us in championing these students as we work to equip them with the literacy skills needed to grow and thrive?
