My six-year-old Japanese Bobtail has developed a problem with his urinary tract. He can't pee on his own and has been in animal hospital for over a week now. His original diagnosis was crystallized urine but it turns out it's more than that, and he is now scheduled for perineal urethrostomy surgery. What does this mean? They will remove most of his penis and the narrow portion of the urethra, leaving a wider opening for the remaining portion under the anus. (Yikes. Sorry for the gory details.)

This is our last option; if the surgery isn't successful, we will have to put him down. There is a 50% chance that Ginger's urinary issues will be resolved with this surgery.  But I like those odds. 

The $7000 that I am hoping to raise will go towards paying for GingerAle's previous & ongoing medical expenses, including: 

- 3 catheters 
- over a week of overnight stays at the vet
- the perineal urethrostomy surgery & after surgery expenses

I'm the first to admit that I'm in over my head with these expenses and there are no guarantees, but GingerAle is a member of our family and so I am seeking help. In March we had to put our 16-year-old cat (and Ginger's companion) down. He had cancer that metastasized to his brain and was having seizures. I don't want to lose another cat this year, especially one that's otherwise healthy.
