Help us repair our home!

Hi all! Jolene and I just got engaged on June 8th and were overjoyed to purchase our first home in Urbana. We’ve lived in the area for three years now and wanted to have our own space in this special community. We closed on our house on May 19th and moved in as fast as we could so we could settle down in OUR HOUSE!
Tuesday, June 20th, Jolene had a major surgical procedure which has her out of work from 6-8 weeks. We had planned for this and were as ready as possible. She has lifting restrictions during this time and is supposed to rest and focus on her healing.
At 1:30 on June 29th, I was on my way home from letting out our friend’s dog when Jolene called me and said “There’s a tree in our house!!!”
When I got home, thankfully Jolene, her mom, my sister, and all of our lovely pets were safe. Our house was a different story. Jolene and I have always been willing to invite the people we love to come and live with us if they are in need, but the tree didn’t even ask first.
We don’t know the complete extent of the damage, but on July 2nd, insurance was able to contract a company to remove the tree. When they removed it we found around twelve large holes, extensive damage to our roofing, and bad damage to the structural framing of the house. Where the holes punched through, they left almost all of our clothing, our bed, much of our office (including my work computer, Jolene’s school computer, and some instruments) damaged or destroyed. We also will need to completely re-insulate the whole attic and refloor all of the effected areas.
Jolene and I try our very best to help others in any way we can. We round up at every store when we can and donate more when we are financially able. Jolene, who is a nurse for the hospital, pitched and implemented a “caring closet” where people can donate clothes for patients who had theirs destroyed in the process of their stay for any reason or if they don’t have enough to keep warm during the chilly months. We are firm believers in offering a hand to whoever we can when we can afford it.
Unfortunately, we often times run into the issue of putting others before ourselves and forgetting that we deserve to be helped too. Being able to ask for help is something we both believe is a strength and we are working on being better. Our family reminded us it is ok to ask for help so here we are.
We know many people experience hardships but we are in a tough spot right now. We aren’t entirely sure what all our insurance will cover, but with everything we lost, we decided to ask for help. Our deductible for insurance is $5,0000 and the quote to remove the rest of the tree to prevent further damage is $6-8,000. We also have other deductibles we will have but are unsure of which will be needed so we rounded to $15,000 for our goal to be safe.
Anything can help, and, honestly, we appreciate even just your time reading this. Thank you so much and please help us reach our goal of you can afford to!
With all the love in our hearts,
Jolene and Tyler
