ENGLISH:
Earlier this year, I went through one of the most difficult moments of my life. While running to catch a bus, I fell and fractured my knee, tearing all the ligaments. I was rescued by firefighters and taken to Getúlio Vargas Hospital (SUS), where I had to undergo emergency surgery just to fix the knee with metal rods between the tibia and the femur — but unfortunately, the ligaments could not be reconstructed at that time.
Since then, I’ve been bedridden, unable to straighten my leg, unable to walk, and with no recovery date in sight. I’ve been living very difficult days, full of pain and total dependence. My parents, who are humble and live solely from my father’s work as a rideshare driver, have been doing everything they can to take care of me in the best way possible.
I was placed on the SISREG waiting list for the definitive ligament reconstruction surgery, but unfortunately, there are over 5,000 surgeries ahead of mine. Recently, during an appointment with a specialist surgeon, I was told that my case is even more complex than we had imagined. The surgery will need to be done in two stages: the first to reconstruct the front ligaments of the knee, and later, the reconstruction of the lateral ligaments.
These procedures require several prosthetic materials and are extremely expensive. Waiting for the SUS could take years, and with each passing day, the risk of atrophy, total loss of movement, and even the impossibility of walking again increases.
This situation is even more painful because, almost three years ago, my mother was also a victim of a car accident and is still waiting for hip prosthesis surgery through the same public health system. We have faced many struggles, and only God knows the strength we need to find every single day.
That’s why, together with my family and friends, we’re organizing this solidarity campaign. Our greatest wish is to raise enough funds for me to have my surgery at a private hospital, so that my youth and dreams won’t be cut short by this long wait. From the bottom of my heart, I thank everyone who feels moved by my story.
