We need help!

We are asking for donations for Jamie Daugharthy and her mother Carol for help with medical and life expenses. Jamie’s story is below:
You may not know Jamie Daugharthy by her real name, but If you are from Des Moines’ East Side, you probably know her face. She is the founder of the Mid Iowa Rollers women’s roller derby team, employee and later owner of Prints Copy Center, and patron of many East side establishments. In addition, she’s spearheaded numerous committees for fundraising as part of the roller derby team and solo for friends and family going through their own hardships. She's also know as Dangerous Daugharthy, Double D or just Dubz. She lived in Pleasant Hill Ia with her mother Carol until March 1st.
On May 16th, 2019, Jamie had to have hip surgery. Just a few days later, on the 19th, she had an emergency colon surgery that took 12 hours, and she almost died. She left the hospital with a colostomy bag.
In March 2020, she went back for the reversal, but the surgeon nicked her rectum (which can happen in these procedures) and left with an ileostomy. She was able to have this reversed in September that same year but started developing incisional hernias, which couldn’t be repaired due to the number of surgeries she had already had.
In May of 2021, Jamie went to see a specialist in Iowa City to repair the hernias, but they would not because she was not healing correctly. In September, they went to see the specialist again as she was still developing multiple hernias and was told they couldn’t do surgery until after the 1st of the year 2022.
Feb 2022 – Jamie now has 12 hernias so large she is nearly unable to bend over, and it becomes hard for her to move.
March 1st, 2022 – Jamie can finally have the hernias repaired but has a massive stroke on the table, leaving the left side of her body immobile. Her brain began to swell, so they removed the skull cap on March 2nd. Jamie was placed on a ventilator to help her breathe.
March 8th, Carol had to make the excruciating decision of letting the doctors remove the ventilator to see if Jamie would breathe on her own or give her a tracheotomy. Unwilling to give up on her daughter, Carol told the doctors to proceed with the tracheotomy.
On March 12th, it was discovered that Jamie had massive blood clots in her right arm – the doctors performed a 12- hour surgery in which they could not remove all the blood clots and had to stop. They placed Jamie on blood thinners to try to get the remaining clots to dissolve on their own.
Jamie has the tracheotomy removed and is moved to Mercy One Rehab on April 1st. There she begins to recover until the 21st when she begins to develop an infection in her only working hand. On April 22nd, she was rushed back to Iowa city to have an emergency surgery to have the infection removed. April 26th, they had to do a bypass in her right arm using a vein from her left thigh. She stayed there in Iowa City until May 25th when she was moved to On With Life Rehab Center in Ankeny where she is currently.
And she’s not done. In the near future, Jamie will have to have another bypass in her right hand because the current one isn’t working as well as it should. She will also need to have her skull cap replaced. Each day Jamie is in danger of a fatal injury to the uncovered part of her brain. In addition, she needs to wear a helmet anytime she is moved in her wheelchair.
As of July 4th, her insurance is no longer paying for the rehab at On With Life, and Jamie will have to be moved into a nursing home as Carol cannot care for her alone and cannot pay for in-home health care.
Between the amount of time Jamie and Carol spent in Iowa City and now with Jamie’s insurance stopping the funding for On With Life, saying they are financially struggling is a gross understatement. Many assistance programs will not accept Jamie because she is too young. They are trying every avenue they can but need our help. Please consider donating. No amount is too small and will be greatly appreciated.
Will also accept Venmo
