Benny Johnson's Near-Fatal Accident
Donation protected
On Sunday, April 19th, Benny Johnson was involved in a horrible auto accident in South Dallas. Driving home from visiting friends, Benny was t-boned by a car that was drag racing; the car was going 70 mph when it hit Benny on the driver’s side. The impact threw Benny to the back seat of his car. He was found pinned in his car and partially hanging out of the window; the fire department had to use the Jaws of Life to extract him. Upon arriving at the hospital, he was immediately taken into emergency surgery and diagnosed with severe brain trauma, a collapsed lung, two dislocated vertebra, a neck injury and numerous other internal injuries.
Benny spent almost two months in the hospital. He spent the first month in ICU, where he required constant care, and had two additional surgeries during this time. He was then moved to a rehabilitation facility on the hospital campus, and was released on June 13th. Though he is now at home, he still needs much care and rehab ---his vocal cords remain paralyzed, and he is learning to walk and swallow again.
In order to provide the around-the-clock attention he requires, Benny's wife Renee took Family Medical Leave from work and has been at his side since the accident. Benny did not have disability insurance or accrued vacation in his job at the Dallas Independent School system. Renee used all of her paid vacation prior to taking Family Medical Leave. Benny and Renee have been without income for the past 2 months.
We, Benny’s brothers from the Irving Bible Church men's ministry, have set up this GoFundMe account in our efforts to help with the family's finances. Any donation, however large or small, can make a huge difference as Benny continues on his road to recovery.
Benny’s positive attitude has blessed us all, and his wife has been a rock and an inspiration, but they really need our help.
Please help us help Benny and his family.

Any good, therefore, that I can do or any
kindness I can show to any fellow creature, let me
do it now….. for I shall not pass this way again."
