Eye Surgery for Evan

My name is Launa and this is a little about my son Evan. Evan is a very energetic and intelligent 2 year old boy. Evan loves playing with cars, reading books, swimming and is always curious to learn new things.
About a month after Evan’s 1st birthday he developed Strabismus (Crossed Eyes) causing his eye to cross inward. Evan has been wearing glasses since February 2013. With hope from his doctors they thought that patching and wearing glasses would help strengthen his eye muscles. Unforchantly trying to get a independent 1 year old to wear an eye patch is next to impossible. We recently went in for Evan's yearly check up, the doctor determined that the eye muscles were not strengthening like they previously thought they would. This means Evan will need Surgery.
The type of Insurance Evan has will not cover much of the surgery because they consider the procedure to be partially cosmetic and an out of network procedure. With Strabismus the eye muscles are weakened and loose, the surgery will help tighten the muscles and straighten out his vision. Without surgery his stronger eye will tell Evan’s brain to stop using the weaker one. This will cause Evan to develop more issues with his eye sight as he gets older which can eventually cause him to go partially blind in the weaker eye.
By sharing Evan’s story we are hoping to get any help we can for the cost of this procedure. As young parents we work very hard to give Evan the best life possible. We own our own home, both work full time jobs and Evan goes to a full time daycare facility. But with all our monthly expenses it leaves very little money in savings. The news of Evan’s Surgery has left are family feeling emotionally and financially drained.
