A few weeks ago, my 9-year-old dog, Xavi, was diagnosed with anal sac cancer (adenocarcinoma) that metastasized to his lymph nodes. It was a complete shock to both of us. This is the second time Xavi has faced cancer—back in 2018, we caught his tail cancer in time, and he’s been doing well ever since.
Anyone who knows Xavi can tell you how special he is and how much he means to me. He’s funny, caring, patient, sweet, and full of wiggles. He’s loyal, and he’s my best friend. We spend every day together, including at work, where he’s part of a community of amazing dogs and humans that he loves. I love him so much and will do anything to help him feel better.
After this diagnosis, our vet set us on a journey to explore the best options for his care. Xavi is a candidate for surgery to remove the tumor and affected lymph nodes, which gives us hope. I’ve met with a wonderful team at the Animal Medical Center, and after one more checkup, we’re hoping to proceed with surgery.
I’m reaching out for help to cover the costs of his initial appointments and any expenses that may arise during the surgery and recovery. Xavi is uninsured due to his preexisting conditions, but we are incredibly lucky to have a supportive community around us. Any help, no matter the amount, would mean the world to us. Xavi is my life, and I never realized how much I needed him until I adopted him. Now, he needs me, and we need you.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for any support you can give.
