Xavier's wheelchair van conversion
Donation protected
Hello friends, family, and Xavier supporters! We are continously reminded of and humbled by the blessings we have in your love and support. As many of you know, raising a child who has a medical and physical disability is filled with many joys and challenges. One thing people don't tend to think about is the huge financial strain it can place on a family.
For years, we have been making do with a regular minivan, and transferring Xavier in and out from his wheelchair, then breaking the wheelchair down and putting it in the trunk of the van. He is 12 now (almost as big as mom) and this process is getting to be rather unsafe for everyone. Its time we buy a wheelchair accessible van!!
In order to be most cost effective, and to get the style of conversion we want, we will be purchasing a new van (used, but new to us) and then having a company convert it. Our quoted conversion will take 4-5 weeks and cost $18,700. (van conversion ranges from $15,500 to $27,500!)
Xavier has spent the last year laying down in the back seat of our van (harnessed in, so he's legal!) because carseats don't work for him anymore due to his severe scoliosis. He will be thrilled to ride sitting up again - he LOVES looking out the windows and watching the world go by. Not to mention the fact that when its -35 degrees outside, its not much fun for him to get in and out of the car using that at least 5 minute process.
Xavier has a very busy social calendar; we travel to Akron Children's Hospital 2-4 times a week for therapy and doctor appointments. After surgery in June for his scoliosis, it is necessary for him to travel in a seated position.
On a daily basis - transportation is a huge deal for him and us!!
THIS VAN WILL CHANGE HIS LIFE!! The positive impact will be so huge on him and our family!!!
Xavier and our family are so thankful for YOU! Please Facebook message me any questions!
xoxo,
Xavier and his family
