Xavier's hysterectomy recovery fund
Zsuzsi/Xavier is a genderqueer, a drag king (20+ years) and producer, and an involved member of the Twin Cities' LGBTQIA+ community. Zsuzsi/Xavier has dealt with debilitating pain from endometriosis for over a decade but could not find a surgeon to do the surgery until recently. Zsuzsi/Xavier finally can have the hysterectomy they need on 7/23/21 to reduce their pain and symptoms.
Hysterectomies require 6-8 weeks of recovery and adherence to a strict reduction in physical activity. Due to the physical nature of Zsuzsi/Xavier's work (cleaning and PCA), they can not work until after the 6-8 weeks are over.
Thankfully, insurance will cover the surgery, but Zsuzsi/Xavier cannot afford the time off needed financially due to their low-income status and no PTO. The last year has been challenging financially for the household because of a loss of income from the pandemic, medical costs, and expensive but essential house repairs. This made it very difficult for any money to be set aside to cover the recovery period.
On top of the financial aspect, Zsuzsi/Xavier's wife Nadi is unemployed and disabled. They are the primary caregiver at this point for Nadi, along with managing the household. The recovery period will impact their ability to take care of the house and Nadi.
The 5 grand will help cover lost income for bills and groceries and hiring daily to weekly help needed for housework, driving Nadi to medical appointments, yardwork...etc. Zsuzsi/Xavier plans to hire queer, trans, and BIPOC individuals so that the money goes back into the community and supports those in need of income.
They will be grateful for any given help and are excited to live a life with less pain. Thank you for being such a wonderful part of Zsuzsi/Xavier's journey.
