In 1972 my dad and I started the 4M Swim Club. He was the teacher and I was the student. Marvin Thorpe or “Mr. Thorpe” as he had affectionately became known, has taught more than 15,000 students over his thirty-two year tenure. The program has been running now for 43 years strong instructing more than 20,000 students as the legacy continues. It has been said that in the Baltimore Metropolitan Area “Mr. Thorpe” - 4M Swim Club has taught more students to swim than any other local swimming facility. People have come from many states and countries near and far to be taught how to swim by Mr. Thorpe!
Even before the passing of Mr. Thorpe, my dad and I envisioned an indoor 12-month aquatic facility that would service the community. As the 4M Swim Club or 4M Swim and Recreation continues the excellent swim instruction legacy, I see a very clear and definite need for an aquatic facility or better, a complete aquatic health and wellness center that also focuses on instructional swimming and special needs students of our community. This center will offer legendary swimming instruction, youth and adult competitive swimming, group and individual exercise and wellness classes, intense warm water therapy, daycare and transportation services among many other offerings.
I need your help! – Desperately! The facility that thousands have passed through learning the lifetime survival skill of swimming is presently too small. I want to move beyond the dream, making this new state of the art health and wellness aquatic center a present day reality. This reality will afford me the opportunity to give back even more, to even more people. Will you please help me by doing two things? Please make a contribution today of any amount and then tell someone else; send this link to someone who will donate. Feel free to check back from time to time to see how the 4M Swim Club is doing!
