Help my family recover from Hurricane Ida!
Hi.
My name is Tonya Thomas and I am raising money for my family in Houma, Louisiana that were devastated by Hurricane Ida which took place on the 16th year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, 8/29/21. Houma is a small town 50 minutes southwest of New Orleans, LA and is known for cajun food, fishing and swamps. It is affectionately referred to as Bayou Country Louisiana. I grew up in this area and it is my home. I always enjoy my visits to see my family. The people of Houma are warm and friendly. It is a very welcoming town and you would never go hungry because there is always someone there to offer you a meal.
My mother, who is in her late 70's, just like so many others, has been displaced from her home. My younger sister and her family also live with my mother. Her home, my childhood home, endured tremendous damage to the roof which caused most of the ceilings to collapse due to water leakage. My mother, my sister and her family lost the majority of their belongings to include clothing and other items. We haven't hit the peak of hurricane season yet and there are more systems that are forming.
The money raised will go towards immediate needs like clothing and other essential items. The process to fill insurance claims takes a while and then the rebuilding starts. I am not sure how long my mother, my sister and her family will be displaced from their home or when the claim will be fulfilled.
Any donation is appreciated! Thank you for reading my story.
