My name is Steve Bramfitt and I’m a passionate paraglider pilot representing the United Kingdom in the up and coming 2021 Red Bull X-Alps. To compete in this invite-only competition has been a dream of mine since I heard about it 12 years ago, and I can’t wait to test my skills against the best pilots in the world.
For those who are unfamiliar with this race, it involves crossing the Alps by foot and paraglider from Salzburg, AUT to Mont Blanc, FRA and back to Zell Am See, AUT. Flying through 5 countries and negotiating 12 turn points for a total straight line distance of 1238 km. If we are unable to fly, we must carry our paraglider as we make progress on foot. I am trying to raise money to help pay for all the associated costs that go along with this almost 3 week long race. Due to the length and magnitude of this race, expenses far exceed most normal competitions. Food, fuel, vehicle repairs and equipment for myself and my support team can add up quickly. Despite this being the pinnacle of the sport, it is challenging to raise enough funds to cover my expenses through corporate sponsorships. This is especially the case as a first time competitor and coupled with the fact that we’re currently in a worldwide pandemic. I am therefore reaching out to friends, family and fans of the race to lower the financial burden, and make it possible to completely focus on the race without worrying about how I am going to fill up the camper.
