The Freeman Family

This page has been set up in support of the Freeman family of Raleigh, NC.  The Freemans have two young boys ages 7 and 8.   In 2019, Kimberly Freeman was hospitalized for three months due to a Strep A infection.  The infection settled in her knee and then spread to her blood causing her to go into septic shock.  Her vital organs began shutting down and she was put into a medically induced coma for several weeks.  The doctors were eventually able to stop the infection, but she was left with several long term effects.  She needed multiple surgeries on her right leg and knee to repair damage done to the skin and muscles.  With extensive physical therapy she has regained her ability to walk without assistance.  The infection also affected her right arm and hand.  With time her arm has healed, but there was nothing that could be done to restore the damage done to her hand.  As a result, Kimberly needed to have her hand amputated.  The amputation surgery occurred on January 20, 2020.  Kimberly is now home but has a long 3-6 month road to recovery that will include multiple follow up visits and eventually being fitted for a prosthetic.  As you can imagine, all of this has been an emotionally, physically, and financially draining experience for them.  In addition to mounting medical bills from her lengthy hospital stay, multiple surgeries on her leg, and the amputation surgery; Kimberly has recently found out that the cost of the prosthetic hand is between $40,000 - $60,000.  While she does have insurance that has helped with some of the medical costs, the amount that she has to pay out of pocket for all of the above is extensive.

The funds raised in this go fund me will go toward paying off past medical bills, the out of pocket costs for her future appointments and/or surgeries, as well as help with the cost of the prosthetic.
