Sals Road to Recovery
Donation protected
I am creating this GoFundMe on behalf of aunt Silvia and her Husband Sal as she is struggling greatly with the situation at hand: this is their story from her.
On July 25th Salomon Martinez aka sal went to work just like any other normal day. Later that day he began to have back pain and his boss drove him to the ER. He stayed home for the next couple days unable to bend or turn his back. On July 28th I received a message from my daughter that read “mommy we are at the ER” with a picture of Sal on a wheelchair, he was unable to walk at that point. After an MRI he was diagnosed with a Bulging disc.
On July 29 his pain so intense he couldnt walk. He was in so much agony I had to call an ambulance. He was admitted that night; his sugar had spiked to 468 and he was given an IV to control his pain. I have taken Sal to the ER a total of 6 times. He was administered 4 times and during the last visit the Dr. Informed us that he has a Spinal Infection that was overlooked. Sal was admitted on August 6th with severe pain and a fever of 103.
Sal has had 2 MRIs, 2 CT scans and xrays, lots of blood work and he is now on daily infusions for 6 weeks. Sal was hopitalized in June from a tooth infection that went to his blood. I believe the hospital did not run proper tests to make sure he was cleared of any other infection when he was released. That infection he had in his blood entered his spine. This is the only explanation the Drs gave us.
The hospital bill for June alone was 27k. We do have insurance but as you all may know our insurance will not be covering all expenses and this as you can imagine is putting me and my family in a financial bind. Sal is unable to work at all. The Dr told him he will have another MRI in mid September to take a look at how the antibiotics are working. During Sals road to recovery I am left with taking on all of our financial responsibilities on my own. The money raised will go towards helping me with our monthly bills including rent for the next 6 months that sal will be unable to contribute and of course help pay for all of the accumulated medical bills.
Sal is a very friendly person always willing to help anyone when he can. He is a people person who always makes friends anywhere he goes. He loves his family and is the glue that holds us together. This whole situation has caught us completely off guard but I think were never really ready for something like this to happen. Any help you can offer to us we will forever be grateful.
God bless,
The Martinez family
